Ukrainian authorities have reported the largest Russian drone attack since 2022, with nearly 500 drones and over a dozen missiles fired at cities across the country, according to officials in Kyiv.

In the early hours of Monday, Ukraine faced what officials described as the largest drone attack by Russia since 2022. Ukrainian authorities stated that Kremlin forces launched almost 500 drones and more than a dozen missiles, targeting multiple cities nationwide.

Ukraine’s air defenses reportedly intercepted and shot down hundreds of drones and many of the missiles. Officials claimed that injuries resulting from the attack were minimal.

Andriy Yermak, chief adviser to Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, commented on the escalation: “Russia is escalating the war and has no intention of stopping it. Any escalation can only be stopped by force.”

Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine began in February 2022 and continues, despite a significant death toll, slow progress in eastern Ukraine, and diplomatic efforts led by U.S. President Donald Trump’s team to resolve the conflict.

Recent weeks have seen two rounds of negotiations between Russian and Ukrainian officials in Turkey. However, Ukrainian authorities report that Russia has continued to intensify aerial bombardments, regularly launching record numbers of drones at Ukrainian targets.

Ukraine has also carried out its own military operations, including a recent AI-supported drone strike that damaged Russia’s fleet of strategic bombers thousands of kilometers inside Russian territory.
