The Trump administration is seeking agreements with Serbia and other Balkan countries to accept migrants deported from the United States, according to Bloomberg News. The move is part of a broader strategy to find new destinations for deported individuals following a recent Supreme Court decision.

The administration of President Donald Trump is urging Serbia and other Balkan countries to accept migrants who are being deported from the United States, Bloomberg News reported on Thursday. The requests to governments in the region are described as part of a broader US initiative to secure foreign partners willing to receive deported migrants, according to individuals familiar with the matter cited by Bloomberg.

Reuters stated it could not immediately verify the Bloomberg report. The White House, the US State Department, and Serbia’s Foreign Ministry did not respond to Reuters’ requests for comment.

Last month, the US Supreme Court allowed the Trump administration to end temporary legal protections for hundreds of thousands of Venezuelan, Cuban, Haitian, and Nicaraguan migrants living in the US. The ruling supports the administration’s efforts to increase deportations.

Following this decision, the Trump administration has been seeking potential destinations for the affected migrants, Bloomberg reported.
